Jacpot Gets Re-injured

Jacpot has a good size cut on his back paw. We aren't sure if this wound was re-opened from his injuries a few weeks ago or occurred somewhere on one of our runs in the desert, playing at the park, etc.

At sunrise this morning Cindy and I explored out near Edwards Air Force Base and Jacpot has been put on bed (couch) rest as much as possible until his paw heals. We are leaving for the mountains in a couple of days so we are hoping he will be able to go on some good fresh air hikes and runs soon.

Jacpot is not happy he has to stay behind.

An abandoned Jet on Edwards Air Force Base.

Nice scenery of Joshua Trees the further you get from the city.

We stopped at an old school that was in use since the early part of the 1900's.

Jacpot Appreciates Companies Spelling

Not many people (or dogs) spell the name Jack without the "k" so the while we were out shopping at PetSmart today the name on the truck caught our attention (click on the picture if you can't read it well).

Jacpot Doesn't Mind The Wind

The Antelope Valley has been windy for about a week now, and although it gets annoying to most of us, the wind doesn't bother Jacpot on runs. The video below gives a feel of the wind on top of Bunny Hill. Also, on our run today as Jacpot and I were cresting the top of a hill, two coyotes were coming straight at us about 50 feet away. By the time I put the leash on Jacpot and got the camera out of my pocket they had already run away.

Jacpot Heals

After playing frisbee at the park at sunrise and then meeting for breakfast with the guys (it's good to be on summer vacation) I took a good look at Jacpot's pads on his paws. Two weeks after tearing up his pads at the Memorial Weekend Party I decided his paws had healed enough to try a run in the hills. I am pleased to report Jacpot did great and had no problem handling the terrain. Below we take a water break at the halfway point.

Jacpot Visits Roxie and Fifa

Today I called Ricky to see if we could bring Jacpot over to meet Roxie and Fifa. More importantly I have been wanting to go over to work on one of Jacpot's issues, that's right I admit Jacpot is not perfect. Jacpot does very well walking on a leash but the moment he gets near another dog, or a person gets too close, he lunges on the leash, not to attack, but to play. After working on Jacpot paying attention to me rather than Roxie and Fifa for a while, we then let them play together.

Roxie and Fifa wonder who this crazy dog is.

Jacpot and Roxie get to know each other.

Jacpot Makes A Fashion Statement

Now that I am on Summer Vacation, Jacpot is ready to go on many adventures. Unfortunately when we go out for coffee, or for exercise at the park it seems to be one step forward two steps backward. Jacpot's paws are still tender from the party that was too much fun.

Hopefully we'll be back out running in the hills shortly but for now we are working on our wardrobe.... see below.

Jacpot On The Mend

With Jacpot having trouble walking (see previous post) we have cancelled any adventures this week and are staying home relaxing, but he wanted to say hello to Coco and Toby in Alabama. :-)

One of the surprises of the weekend was Kim and Frank going out of their way to get a Carvel Ice Cream Cake. On their last visit to Palmdale Dave and Frank discussed the old commercials and found some on You Tube.

Below is the cake they brought along with one of the old commercials below.

Jacpot Has Too Much Fun

This Saturday on Memorial Day Weekend was full of fun, and yes, sometimes too much fun... we'll get too that shortly.

The morning started out with one of our usual trips to the nearby school for some exercise.

Kim and Frank arrived on Friday night and Kim G., Brandon, Joe, and Good Buddy Harley came up on Saturday. The local Hursts and Whites came over as well to round out the reunion.

Jacpot walks around with Harley for a while...

...and then catches up with Joe.

Jennie works on her diving skills...
Even though Jacpot loves swimming in the lake Harley could not get Jacpot to work on his swimming skills, while Jacpot learns that Chris needs much practice on his dancing skills!!!
What a great day it was and eveyone had tons of fun, but Jacpot learned today that running back and forth on the concrete all day long eventually wears down ones pads, and causes them to bleed, so he is now taking it easy and wearing his new booties. Yes Jacpot, sometimes one can have too much fun.

Jacpot Goes To Pismo Beach

Our good friends Kim and Frank moved to Pismo Beach recently and Jacpot was more than eager to visit their new place in Pismo for the weekend.

After arriving Friday, Frank, Jacpot, and Chris took a walk down along the beach, their place is just a block or two from the ocean. We played cards until well past midnight, but Jacpot turned in early in anticipation of a fun filled day on Saturday.

We started with a walk to Old West Cinamon Rolls to start the morning...

We spent the weekend in about a 20 mile span at San Luis Obispo, Avila Beach, Shell Beach, and Pismo Beach. The theme we noticed over and over again is just how dog friendly all the towns we visited were.

Jacpot and I were waiting outside while Cindy tried on some shoes and the shop owner invited us in.

Japot makes sure he gets the right size.

Later in the afternoon we headed to Avila Beach where they have a Dog Beach. On the first Saturday of every month Great Danes have a time they all get together and Jacpot joined in on the fun.

Afterwards we headed to San Luis Obispo and ate at Bel Frites for a snack. They serve only french fries with a wide variety of sauces. These are special Belgium French Fries that the whole process takes around 12 hours to make.

On our walk around San Luis Obispo we walked around the mission
and Jacpot wanted to pose like the grizzly bear in the sculpture....

After taking the picture, Jacpot thought he was so funny and couldn't stop laughing. I had to listen to him all day about how funny he thought he was....

Later in the afternoon when we got back to Frank and Kim's place we decided we needed a nap....

Before dinner we walked down to the beach for more play time...

Sunday morning we went to Shell Beach to eat breakfast at Zorro's. The food and service were spectacular...

Not only did we get mints with the check but Jacpot got a dog biscuit (again, dog friendly everywhere)...

They even had water bowls out for dogs.

After breakfast more walking around with beautiful scenery everywhere.

What's this? Dog drinking fountains next to the regular drinking fountains...

Jacpot and Chris take a break....

Jacpot and Chris take another break...

Jacpot off to his next adventure...

We had such a nice time at the Avila beach dog park Saturday we returned again on Sunday, but this time with plenty of sun.

Thanks for the great time Frank and Kim!!!
