Jacpot Returns Home

After a great week in the mountains we had to say goodbye and get ready to head home.

Cindy and Jacpot put up the flag for spring as the Hurst family packs up their luggage in the background.

After cleaning up and saying goodbye to our guests, Cindy, Jacpot, and Chris took a hike down near the Boy Scout Camp, and walked around down at the river. We hadn't been all the way down to the river below Cold Springs before so that was nice seeing what the area looked like.

We headed down the mountain as the sun was rising early Saturday morning.

After a week of playing in the mountains it was time for Jacpot to get a bath back home in Palmdale.

Jacpot Goes Metal Detecting

Jacpot and I went to "Little Sweden" to do some metal detecting. Little Sweden is the name given to a local snow sledding hill that gets quite crowded with people riding down the hill on their saucers and sleds. The snow had melted so we took the metal detector looking for lost change, and today we raked in the large sum of 57 cents. Along with the change we found a nice Verizon LG phone and to my surprise after sitting in the snow for a few days it still worked. I was able to get ahold of numbers in the address book and talked to the brother of the owner of the phone and therefore was able to send the phone to its owner in the mail.

Cindy, Cindy, Jacpot, and Chris went for another run around the lake today. Of course, it goes without saying we had a great time.

We take a break for a photo.

Jacpot Runs Around Pinecrest Lake

On a beautiful sunny day, Cindy, Cindy, Jacpot, and Chris walked and ran around Pinecrest Lake. In a few spots the snow got a little deep and it made hiking through the snow in running shoes a little wet and difficult. We had a great time and are eager to go again tomorrow.

Jacpot Has A Groundhog Day

Tuesday, we repeated adventures from previous days. In the morning we started out by heading back up to the store for the newspaper, and little Cindy joined us. In the afternoon we took the snowmobiles out again to see if there was any improvement on the one with engine troubles after I changed and regapped the spark plugs. Unforutunately no improvement and no pictures as we had the same old problems so it looks like we have decided to sale the snowmobiles (Jerry and Shirley, hopefully we'll have more room in the garage after this summer). To wrap up the day we took another trip to Pinecrest and walked around down by the lake. After just a couple of days the snow on the north side had already melted so we are thinking about taking a jog around the lake Wednesday, and we'll be careful on the south side trail with snow.

Jacpot Goes Snowmobiling

On a beautiful sunny day after yesterdays snowfall Cindy, Teresa, Jacpot and Chris decided it was perfect timing to go out on the snowmobiles and pack a lunch. We didn't make it as far as we planned as one of the snowmobiles had engine trouble so we stopped only a few miles out and played in the snow and ate lunch.

Jacpot and Chris cruise along in the snowmobile.

We take a lunch break.

Jacpot searches for that lost snowball.

We take a hike up some fresh powder.

Jacpot Enjoys An Evening Trip To Pinecrest Lake

With ominous clouds still hanging around after the days snowstorm we took a walk down by the lake. With the evening overcast skies, everything looked like it was in black and white.

Jacpot Wakes Up To A Fresh Blanket Of Snow

After going to bed with rain and hail we awoke to 4 inches of fresh powder. Jacpot was pleasantly surprised after not enjoying the hail too much (see previous post) but he loves playing in the snow. Teresa, Cindy, Jacpot and I walked up to the store to get a newspaper after breakfast, which they had not received but Jacpot was okay with that... it probably means another trip up there.

Jacpot Checks Out The Thunder and Hail

This evening we got plenty of thunder, lightning, and hail. Jacpot handled everything very well, and even tried going out on the deck. The hail was a little more adventurous then Jacpot was up for, and after a quick walk under the hail returned back to some cover.

Jacpot Returns To The Mountains

With the beginning of a week off for Spring Break we have arrived back at our cabin in Cold Springs. Cindy, Teresa, Jacpot, and myself walked a few miles around the Pinecrest cabins today.

Jacpot Enjoys The Poppies

Running in the desert can seem brown and dry sometimes, but I always enjoy the many contrasts. Today patches of poppies and other wildflowers were evident everywhere along the trail.

Jacpot Enjoys A Warm Spring Day

The weather is definitely warming up, but we still had a great time, with Teresa joining us for a run in the hills.

On the way home we met some friendly people and their dog Jazz.

Jacpot Goes To March Birthday Weekend in MB

What a great weekend we had in Morro Bay. The 10 of us celebrated all the March birthdays (6 out of 10 of us have birthdays in March... I mean 11 when you count Jacpot, oops.).

On Saturday we had a picnic near Cambria at a park near the ocean.... Jacpot enjoys the view before lunch.

The wildflowers were incredible.

All 11 of us gather to pose for a shot in the tree.

Jacpot, Cindy and dad, Jerry.

Jacpot gets a gift from Eric and Cherie and gets to know his new monkey friend... and then eats him.

Jacpot plays with new friend Paloma... he didn't eat him.

Time to open birthday presents.

Dad's hoping he scratches off a winner.

Mom and Eric watch Jacpot play in the ocean.

Dad, Cherie, and Jacpot wait to be seated at Bayside Cafe.

On our way home we stopped to see all the butterflies at the Monarch Butterfly Grove in Pismo Beach.
